UNDERSTANDING RETROGRADE AMNESIA
Retrograde amnesia is a memory disorder characterized by the inability to remember events or experiences that occurred prior to the onset of the amnesia. Retrograde amnesia can result from head injuries, infections (encephalitis), various diseases, epileptic seizure and/or a psychological trauma. In mild cases of retrograde amnesia, individuals usually remember old memories that have already been consolidated (i.e., name, address). However, retrograde amnesia can very often lead a total loss of memory. Some people forget everything about their life, including their name.
